Georgia Window Tint Laws: What's Legal in 2026

Legal VLT Limits for Passenger Vehicles in Georgia

SUVs and vans have more flexibility on rear windows. Georgia allows any darkness on rear side windows and the rear windshield for multi-purpose vehicles (SUVs, vans, trucks with rear seating). The 32% VLT rule still applies to the front side windows.

What Does VLT Mean?

VLT stands for Visible Light Transmission, the percentage of visible light that passes through the tint film. A 32% VLT means 32% of light gets through and 68% is blocked. Lower VLT numbers mean darker tint.

For context: factory-tinted rear windows on most new cars are around 15–20% VLT. That factory tint on the rear is legal in Georgia, but applying aftermarket tint that dark on the front side windows is not.

What About Tint Reflectivity?
